I never had a BEST FRIEND when I was a kid. I had many friends, but no one that I considered my BEST friend. I played with a lot of people, but didn't really have any one that I felt understood me, and would listen to me and truly empathize with me. I was probably closest to my sister S, but figured since we were sisters that didn't really count in the BEST FRIEND category. I went to college. Met the husband and lots of fun people, and continued to hang out with a few of them after graduation. One of them especially was always there for me, but I didn't really think of her as my BEST FRIEND. Until one day it dawned on me. Who was there at my wedding to help me out when I needed it? (I didn't make it to hers) Who helped me pack to move at least 10 times? Who could feel my pain and called me at 1:00 in the morning the night that my Tie-Tie dog died, because she knew I'd be up, and then sent me flowers the next morning? Truly the BEST friend that I have ever had. Someone who is always there for me to this day. She rescued me when my car blew an oil line, understands that I still love her even if I don't feel up to going to a movie, and doesn't stress out when I cancel get togethers because of a sick kid. She will even dress up like a pirate and be my date for the evening. That has to be the BEST FRIEND ever. I am blessed.
