Reverse 911 for cell phones

Date: December 13, 2011
Time: 10:35 p.m.
Two armed juveniles, and an adult attempt to rob a local convenience store. The problem was the shop keeper was closing up for the night, and had already locked the doors and put all the money in the safe. So the thugs took his car instead. Police chased the car through North Logan until they ran it off the road and the criminals took off on foot.
10:38 p.m. A reverse 911 call is made to area residents, warning them of the danger. The Eliason household has a land line, but it is used solely as a message machine for renting of the cabin. The ringer is turned off. I did not receive the 911 call.
10:40 p.m. Regina looks out of her scrapbook window and sees a police officer in her back yard scouring the field behind her house???? Another officer is at the top of the block, 2 more are on the street above my house, and more are pouring in. Frightened, I lock all the doors and set the house alarm system.
10:41 p.m. Regina's friend Police Sgt. Louise Speth calls to inform Regina of the situation and tells her to go into "Full Lock Down Mode"

Ok. Here I am with a situation where 3 armed fugitives are running loose through my neighborhood. Thank Heaven Louise called me or I would never have known the reason a police officer was scouring my yard. Full Lock Down Mode. What does that really mean? I realized I had no idea what that really meant, and I am in a situation where I could honestly be in some REAL danger. Clint is in Georgia, and here I am feeling scared and unprepared. Thankfully Louise walked me through it. I told her I had locked the doors and set the alarm. She had me go wake Jenna from her basement bedroom and bring her to the upstairs master bedroom, confirm that the garage doors were closed, all window blinds lowered, all outside lights on. Do not go outside for any reason. Do not let Lily outside to pee, because they had released the police canines in the area and we did not want to mess up their search pattern in any way. If we see or hear anything unusual call dispatch or 911 immediately.
Relatively simple right? Yes. But also very frightening. I realized that had I received the reverse 911 call, I could have been locking down faster, and that had Louise not called me, I could have been completely unprepared. Thankfully Louise rescued me again and notified me of the registration site for cell phones to receive reverse 911 calls in our area. If you live in Cache County, you can find that information here:  911.loganutah.org
If you do not live in Cache County, and rely on cell phones for your main source of communication, I HIGHLY RECOMMEND you seek out this information for your area. It could keep you safe.

Oh, the ending of the story? Cache County's Finest stayed on patrol until around 1:30 am, Where they had captured 2 of the three hiding out in a new home under construction. This house is located on the street above mine, and is probably less than 1/8 of a mile away. The third person was arrested later on Wednesday. All is well. Keep yourself safe. Register your cell phones for reverse 911 calls. Do it. NOW!

Bill Approved Pumpkin Seeds. Yum!

Clint loves pumpkin seeds, and for years I have tried to make them to his liking.I finally got it right.
So for all of you other fans of pumpkin seeds, here is my recipe.

Ingredients: Cleaned pumpkin seeds. I had 7 cups
 6  Cups water
 1/3 Cup Salt
Bowl
Colander
Pam cooking spray
2 large cookie sheets

1. Dissolve the salt in the water, in the bowl.
2. Add pumpkin seeds.
3. Soak the pumpkin seeds in the salty water for 24 hours. Stirring occasionally to spread the salts around.
4. Use colander to drain water from seeds.
5. Spray cookie sheets with Pam cooking spray.
6. Spread seeds out evenly across 2 cookie trays.
7. Bake in 200* oven for 2 1/2 hours, stirring and rotating trays every 1/2 hour.
8. Let cool, then eat up. Yum!

You'll like 'em...they're "Bill Approved!"

Cabin Dreamin'

All my life I've wanted a cabin. Finally I have one. It is quiet there, and peaceful, and I truly truly love it. I love sitting by the fire and knitting until my eye lids droop. But I also have a brand new pee making, wood chewing, box tearing, poop leaving, bundle of excess energy. I have been to the cabin once since February, and that was in August. Good thing she's cute!

Whole lotta Nothing

Tomorrow is an eventful day for some people close to my heart. Thoughts are floating, day and night, like should I call, should I not...knowing full well I won't.  I am not angry at the course of events, I have known, deep down this is how it would all end up. So I am not surprised, not angry. If all are happy then I could be happy too. But I don't know if all are happy, because I am locked out. Locked out because I am nothing. Not mom, not aunt, not cousin, not pizza delivery man, and apparently not friend.  Not anything. Not even worth a phone call so I can offer my congratulations, love and support. Not even worth a reply to texts, or Facebook messages sent with words of encouragement. Not even worth returning a phone call, or being called without calling first.I am simply tolerated, like cheap fast food, everyone knows it's there, nobody really hates it, but nobody really wants it either, unless they have no other choice.
Pastor Susan has been giving sermons lately http://mountainpriest.wordpress.com/ that talk about how life isn't fair, and It's God's show anyway, it's not about us....and we just need to suck it up and deal with it... and yeah, I get it. I know it's not really about me, and I so desperately want to just drop it all and not care, I mean no one else is up all night wondering, so it is obviously MY PROBLEM!!!! So, I will do my best to smile pretty for the camera. But behind the facade held together with fragile and breaking, won't stick anymore, little bits of tape is a make believe momma trying to capture a fantasy.
So for now, I'll just say congratulations on tomorrow, my heart. I hope it is everything you want it to be. I hope that you are happy, and that some how, you will feel me thinking of you, and know that you are very, very loved.
And, whenever someone asks "what are you thinking?" and you reply "nothing," I pray, in reality, you were thinking of me.

Ahoy Matey! cannon part the first

Now for the CANNON!!!!
1. Buy a bunch of 4 inch black plastic pipe parts with no idea of what they are or how they are really used in every day life.

2. Assemble all the unknown black bits of plastic until it looks like it could be a cannon.

3. Add fog.
4. Do happy dance cuz it works!!!!!!

Ahoy Matey! Rope Ladder

Construction of the pirate ship has begun.  For starters, I tied a rope ladder that will attach to the main sail.
*** NOTE*** this rope ladder is for decoration purposes only. In NO WAY should this technique be used for a ladder for children to climb on!!!
To construct the rope ladder you will need:
about 100 feet of rope
scissors
something to tie it to such as a fence post.

1. Cut 5 vertical lengths of rope, each 10 feet long.
2.  Measure 2 feet from the top of  one length  of rope then tie a knot. Measure a foot, then tie another knot. Repeat 4 more times so you have 2 feet at the top, then the first knot, then 5 more knots total, then about 1 1/2 feet at the bottom (total 6 knots).
3. Tie all 5 sections of rope to a fence or other stable object.
4. Tie knots in the other 4 lengths of rope, trying to match all knots.
5. Cut 6 horizontal lengths of rope, each 5 feet long.
6. Tie first horizontal length onto first vertical rope just above the first knot. Continue vertically across the ropes to make a "net."
7. Repeat with other 5 horizontal lengths
8. When all knots have been tied onto net, remove net from fence, and tie all rope sections together at top. ( I wound them up, made a loop, and bound it with an extra section of rope.)

Homecoming parade_0024

Homecoming parade_0024, originally uploaded by tlcbull2.

Here is some wobbly video of JB dancing in the USU homecoming parade. It includes an extra bonus of BRENT on his bike. For those of you who don't know Brent, he is a Cache Valley Icon, and is in EVERY parade, riding his bike, waving and honking his bike horn. Parades in other cities just aren't the same without him. :-)

Sweetness in a bottle

I have a lot of cousins, and I love all of my cousins in a different way. I have one cousin that I have really gotten to know better since he moved to Logan to attend USU, and last night he invited me to listen to him sing at a vocal concert put on by the LDS Institute. This cousin has been on an LDS Mission and is a fine example of an LDS young man. He believes strongly in his faith, but is also very accepting of me and my choices when it comes to my faith. So, because I love him dearly, I accepted his invitation to listen to him sing. I am grateful that he thought to invite me, and even more grateful that I decided to go. It doesn't matter to me what "religion" you claim to be, but the sound of music sung by young people with hearts full of dedication and praise for a God they love is nothing short of pure beauty. At one point I could actually feel the floor resonate with the power of their voices. Music does my soul good. Songs of Praise do my soul even better, like sweetness in a bottle.

Decisions

Ok. I have decided it is time to make some decisions. I have looked at pirate ships made from canvas, cardboard, wood, and paper. I have investigated cannons made from pvc and copper. I have hurt my brain studying lighting schematics and Christmas light controller relays. My decision?  I have decided that I am indeed NOT smart enough to pull off what I want to do, however being dumb has it's benefits, because I am also not smart enough to just realize I can't do this and quit. I will push forth into the foreign land of jargon that I do not understand. Last night I found these little beauties and thought I would share.Mr. McGroovy's Box Rivets

Interesting bit of mysterious irony...

Took MP3 to Orem today to have her stitches out, and have Dr. Pew give her the once over. He checked her out, said all was well, and he figured that she is healthy enough that he may not have to see her again. EVER.  Dr. Pew said she is the perfect weight for her age...31 lbs.  He says many bulldogs are severely obese and he would like it if Lily's full adult weight was not to exceed 35 lbs. She walks 2+ miles per day so her heart is strong, her muscles are strong, her lungs are strong. The soft pallet issue has been resolved, and her breathing is nearly perfect. One of my criteria when searching for a puppy was a parent under 50 lbs because I didn't want a dog I couldn't lift. I can do 35lbs.  So in short, even though she was broken, and cost us a lot of heartache and extra cash, she is turning out to be the healthiest bulldog we have had to date... interesting isn't it?
