Caribbean Christmas 12/26

We were still a little bit apprehensive of going snorkeling near the boat dock, due to the jellyfish, so we needed something else to do. Our hosts who own the apartment where we were staying recommended we take the glass bottom kayak tour. We are glad we did! http://www.clearbottombonaire.com/

We loaded up into our kayaks and pushed off.

Looking back towards the shore I saw horses in the water... later, people were actually riding as the horses swam in the ocean. It was crazy!

We paddled across Lac Bay and through a tunnel of mangroves.

Upside down jellyfish awaited us. They actually do swim upside down. They anchor themselves (somehow) to the bottom, and the tentacles float upwards like a plant. Sometimes they let loose from where they are and float somewhere else to feed.  We were told they didn't have much of a sting, but after yesterday's grand jellyfish adventure, JB and I steered clear! They come in a variety of colors, blue, brown green... I had never seen a blue jelly fish before.

Once we were inside the mangrove clusters, we hopped out of our kayaks and snorkeled through the mangroves. Many different types of corals and oysters were growing on the root systems.

Snapper find the mangroves to be a suitable hiding place.

After cleaning up from snorkeling the mangroves, we were ready for a drive. We headed to Washington-Slagbaai National Park

We returned to our apartment to find... Su, our hostess, shooting at some feral chickens with her wrist rocket. Apparently the rooster had been keeping her up all night with his incessant crowing, and she was seeking revenge. Animal lovers need not worry. She was a terrible shot.
